In the Bible God tells Moses to tell Pharaoh to “let my people go”! going out of Egypt is about freedom from slavery. But its not freedom for its own sake. The purpose is so that you may serve God. It’s very important that we look after ourselves but our purpose to serve something that is higher than ourselves. We are part of something larger and we must connect to that.
I believe that all reality is connected to one whole. In our fragmented society we don’t feel that. Many people just think about themselves and many people thing and care about other end up as door mats. To be surrounded by people who truly care about you and you can function together for some higher purpose is rare or maybe even hardly in existence.
I believe we all have an obligation to connect with ourselves on a deeper level and try to connect with our purpose and also at the same time find others who you can connect with to help each other and to function together and to live for a higher purpose.
Mind you many families function like this. The husband and wife that truly care about each other, they love each other and work to build a family together. And its these families that keep society alive spiritually. Unfortunately, many people struggle to be that person that can build such a family or they may struggle to find a suitable match or they may end up settling for a partner who does not function like that.
But even a talented hard-working disciplined couple can struggle to bring up healthy children without a strong community. as the saying goes it takes a village to build a community.
Why is it so difficult to build a healthy family and even harder to build a healthy community? I don’t know, but real freedom can only come if you have a healthy environment. Obviously, there is a deeper freedom and that is that no matter what your situation is you can respond to it, but for that your mind needs to be free. If its not, you need to find the freedom that you do have and expand on it. Freedom is like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it grows. Maybe.

I agree with the sentiment that we need to focus more on responsibility rather than just freedom, for a functioning society. But you don't have enough concrete rules in your article for that to happen. It is liberal wishful thinking that no tried and tested God rules are necessary for this process. Only religions have ever done, for a decent amount of time, what you are trying to achieve.
